The government has extended the income tax deadline to September 15.
Citing the many modifications made to the forms and the time required to update the systems, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITRs) for the fiscal year 2024–2025 from July 31, 2025, to September 15.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Supreme Court denied a request to use the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950, to safeguard the name of Hindutva ideologue V.D. Savarkar. Petitioner-in-person Pankaj Phadnavis, who appeared before a bench presided over by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, said that in order to dispel misconceptions regarding Savarkar, the court must permit him to correct and establish certain historical facts.
