๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates: Operation Sindoor and Retaliation

Tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified following India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor,” a series of airstrikes targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. These strikes were in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 civilian deaths. India asserts that the targeted sites were used to plan terrorist activities against its territory. In retaliation, Pakistan has condemned the strikes as an “act of war” and vowed a robust response.

Nationwide Civil Defence Drill: Operation Abhyaas

In light of the escalating tensions, India is conducting “Operation Abhyaas,” a comprehensive civil defence mock drill across 244 districts. Scheduled for May 7, the exercise includes air-raid siren tests, blackout simulations, and evacuation drills. Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad are participating, aiming to bolster civilian readiness against potential threats.

Casualties and Damage

Pakistan reported that the strikes resulted in at least 26 deaths and 46 injuries, including civilians. Among the sites hit was the Bilal mosque in Muzaffarabad, leading to significant damage and civilian casualties.

Pakistani Response

In retaliation, Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war” and vowed a strong military response. The Pakistani military claimed to have shot down five Indian jets, which crashed in Indian-controlled Kashmir and northern Punjab, resulting in additional civilian casualties. However, India has not confirmed these claims.
